Bought some material to change out the fabric door panel inserts. Looking at the dorsum of the panel, I run into the plastic rivets and they look pretty easy to drill out with a drill fleck.

My question is... how do yous reattach the insert on to the door console once the rivets are gone? Most of the rivets are pretty curt, so I don't think screws would work.

For guys that have done this, what did you use? Tips/pictures would be Profoundly appreciated.

    Dainty catch Mainemanx!

I'd been in contact with Robin at Priushoods (eBay) who had been working for some fourth dimension on a set of door panels, but finally gave up on it when they couldn't exercise it to their satisfaction.:(
They do, still, exercise a leather center armrest cover that looks very good.

Speaking of Clazzios: has anyone heard any more than on the PC grouping buy?

Information technology appears that the trick is to apply the smallest drill flake that will release the rivet, and then use a soldering fe or something of the kind to "mushroom" the pieces dorsum into identify.

Some other choice is to drill deeper and use some cocky tapping screws (I'd observe some stainless ones) to resecure.

Otherwise, there are a number of adhesives that could exist used, such as Permatex 84115 PermaPoxy 5 minute Plastic Weld.

    That should do the job...:)

I watched a company do this on my car (while putting in Katzkins). Seems to be quite the projection. Information technology was not a x minute deal (and they are very experienced). They did not glue them back - I believe it was rivets - only I could be mistaken....

after you lot drill out the plastic rivets, the leftover plastic stalks are very short (i think 1/4" to one/8"). Not really certain if there are screws that'll exist short enough and still hold the panel in tightly. and the stalks would be too brusk to try and "mushroom" them again.

with epoxy, wonder how it would concord upwardly over time?

every bit with rivets, how??? i think you lot would accept to drill off the former rivets completely to put in the new rivets. Plus, the new rivets would have to be pressed in from both sides if they are metal.

rrolff... can you do usa a HUGE favor and pop off your door and take a picture for the states?

Yes, virtually hardware stores have small self tappers that would suffice. Check out ACE...It's an epoxy specifically designed for plastics and resins, so I'd be pretty confident.Non my suggestion. I'one thousand not too sure how they'd work.

If the original pins are still long enough, melting them with a soldering iron is a valid choice.:D

Another idea might be an appropriately-sized push nut or tinnerman type of fastener that might capture the original pin....:suspicious:

For anyone installing--or even considering installing--Clazzio'due south, searching on the Yaris and Scion sites turns up several adept DIY threads. For instance, here's ane with detailed photos and useful advice:

mainemanx - where did you order an actress cloth from Clazzio? How much was information technology?
  12. mainemanx

    Along with the covers, from:

Edible bean Garage - Clazzio Stock

At the fourth dimension it was $23/square meter.

P.S. Edible bean is in Jax FL, but I believe they were drop-shipped from Torrance, CA.

Thanks mainemanx! BTW, did you install your door panel insert?
  14. mainemanx

Door panel inserts? Ha! I've yet to even install the Clazzios themselves. In fact, it was all I could do yesterday to replace the horns...
  15. xs650

A minor point, the $23/thou^2 price is for vinyl, not leather.
  16. mainemanx

Ahhhh... possibly I could have gotten real leather if I had looked. Padded and perforated would probably have been more luxurious. My theory was the vinyl, if zilch else, was spare fabric.

Edit: Not to mention, the OP is referring to leather.

  17. xs650

I got perforated vinyl for my Katzkin door panels and got hosed worse than that on price. That's not a bad price for small-scale amounts of perforated vinyl.

I glued mine on on over the stock cloth door console, it feels pretty good considering the cloth underneath gives it a little actress padding. Katzkin's instructions say to glue it on over the door console cloth.

The Katzkins came stock with un-perforated vinyl for the doors.

  18. mainemanx

Was it a picture of your installation that I once saw but at present tin can't detect? And did yous disassemble the panels?

P.Due south. Finally, does xs650 refer to a cross between a pianoforte visitor and a Brit vertical twin?

  19. GoldPianoGarden

Later on all the trouble this is sounding like information technology entails, the $364 that my dealership said they'd accuse to do it on all 4 doors doesn't sound and then bad now!

Bean Garage appears to be close to me hither where I alive, and I'm in Jax frequently, and so I wonder if they install, likewise, as another alternative?..... hmmmm

  20. xs650

I haven't put upwardly any installation pictures notwithstanding, I hope to by the end of adjacent week.

Yep, the xs650 refers to the Brit like twin the didn't leak that was made by a Japanese piano company. Actually the engine appears to have been based on some obscure High german twin who's proper name escapes me right now. The engine was OHC, unit construction, horizontally split crankcase, didn't leak and had reliable electrics then it had nothing in mutual with Brit twins of the era other than being a vertical twin.

I call up that's not a completely outrageous price if they guarantee their piece of work for the life of the door panel. There are lot of ways to spiral the job up and replacement door panels are expensive.
